2023-03-15 22:08:24 I sometimes just don't understand people. I was just watching a video about differences between the Lord of the Rings books vs. movies. The video guy stated that one of the things book fans get most upset about is that the character Tom Bombadil wasn't in the movies. I don't find that a big deal at all. In my opinion far and away the most horrid change was that when Sauron's representative rode out the 2023-03-15 22:08:26 Black Gates to parley with our heroes, Aragorn *decapitated him*. He came out under a flag of truce, and the guy who's supposed to become KING executed him - like a complete barbarian. What, no one was upset over THAT? 2023-03-15 22:08:54 I found that bit absolutely shocking. 2023-03-15 22:09:22 The whole point of the Aragorn character was that he was a pillar of nobility "royalty potential." 2023-03-15 22:09:38 nobility *and* 2023-03-15 22:11:20 there is a different take on the myths where Gandalf represents regressive fuedalism 2023-03-15 22:11:34 pretty sure it was by a soviet writer 2023-03-15 22:13:30 Well, that's what Soviets did. 2023-03-15 22:18:11 also pretty sure the movies mucks up the Faramir character and events involving 2023-03-15 22:26:05 Yeah, in the movie Faramir starts to take Frodo and Sam back to Minas Tirith with him; in the books he considers it but lets him go. 2023-03-15 22:26:13 s/him/them/ 2023-03-15 22:27:41 I understand the need to "adapt" a story when changing media, but I don't think a diretor should CHANGE the story. 2023-03-15 22:28:52 Espeially not in a way like the Aragorn thing, that completely alters a character's moral compass. 2023-03-15 22:31:22 the groundlings need some gore for some cheap roars 2023-03-15 22:36:28 It's a little disconcerting to think that the movie's audience would "largely approve" of such a foul move. 2023-03-15 22:37:42 these folks started and carried on World Wars I and II 2023-03-15 22:49:04 Which folks? 2023-03-15 22:54:00 the offspring of the survivors of said wars 2023-03-15 22:56:57 Yeah, I guess that's so, but what does that have to do with morals and honor? 2023-03-15 22:59:11 grandchildren too, I'd think - my impression is that quite a large segment of the movies' fan base were kids when they saw it. 2023-03-15 22:59:19 Kids that hadn't read the books.
